Automatic Image Correction and Enhancement

AiPICT and AiPICX feature automatic functions that correct or enhance a wide variety of images utilizing smart heuristics. Image processing steps can also be replicated.

The imaging bar on the left provides quick access to common imaging functions and auto fixes. The Enhance menu displays all auto fix routines.

  • Open/view before2_demo.jpg
  • Select Enhance|Auto Fix|Auto_Reference
  • Select Enhance|Auto Fix|Auto_Flash

After invoking an auto fix, you are prompted to accept or reject the enhanced image. If rejected, enhancement is "undone" and alternative methods are presented. For this lesson, accept the automated enhancements when prompted. You can see the results of each enhancement step below.

    Understanding Image Buffers

Hidden image buffers that copy the entire image. This powerful feature lets you combine changes in one bitmap with another. Continuing from the previous lesson ...

The image on the left is the original; on the right is the modified image. By adjusting the Mask value you control to what extent the image is blended with the duplicate in the hidden image buffer. In the above example, only some high contrast elements were blended for a wider tonal range.

Summary: In this lesson, you applied two automatic enhancement functions and saw the advantages of combining bitmaps. Purists may prefer the original, color-corrected image. Others will prefer the image with higher contrast. By combining bitmaps you can achieve in-between results.
